Timeline of upcoming changes

  • February 18, 2024: New Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 – CE marking for certain batteries to improve safety and sustainability.
  • June 2024: AI Act – harmonized rules for artificial intelligence, with CE marking requirements for high-risk AI systems.
  • Mid-2024: New Ecodesign Regulation – stricter sustainability requirements and digital product passports for all products.
  • Autumn 2024: Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) – cybersecurity requirements for digital products with CE marking and potential fines.
  • Autumn 2024: Regulation for Toy Safety – stricter chemical requirements and digital product passport requirements.
  • December 13, 2024: New General Product Safety Regulation – increased responsibility for economic operators, risk assessments, and regular testing.
  • 2025: Digital Product Passports – QR codes leading to relevant product information, increasing transparency and sustainability.

February 2024: New battery regulation

Regulation (EU) 2023/1542
From February 2024, the new battery regulation will come into force, requiring certain batteries to be CE-marked. This directive aims to improve the safety and sustainability of batteries within the EU and will be automatically implemented in Sweden.

June 2024: AI Act

Regulation for harmonized rules for artificial intelligence
The new AI Act is expected to be published in June 2024 and will come into effect 20 days after publication. This regulation requires high-risk AI systems to be CE-marked, imposing requirements on companies to ensure their AI products meet the new safety standards.

Mid-2024: New ecodesign regulation

Framework regulation for ecodesign requirements and sustainable products
The new Ecodesign Regulation is expected to be published in mid-2024 and will come into effect 20 days after publication. This regulation introduces stricter sustainability requirements and digital product passports for all products.

Autumn 2024: New Cyber Resilience Act and regulation for toy safety

Cyber Resilience Act (CRA)
The new regulation for cybersecurity requirements for products with digital elements is expected to be published in autumn 2024 and will come into effect 20 days later. Full compliance is required within 36 months. The regulation imposes stringent CE marking requirements for digital products and includes severe fines for non-compliance.

Regulation for toy safety
The revised regulation for toy safety, which includes stricter chemical requirements and digital product passport requirements, is also expected to be published in autumn 2024 and will come into effect 20 days later. Full compliance is required within 30 months.

December 2024: New General Product Safety Regulation

The new General Product Safety Regulation will come into force on December 14, 2024. This regulation places increased responsibility on economic operators and requires risk assessments and regular testing of consumer products to ensure their safety.

2025: Digital product passports

To increase transparency and sustainability, the EU will introduce digital product passports. Products will have a QR code leading to a page with relevant information. This regulation is expected to be published in 2025 and implemented 24 months later.
