How much does CE marking cost?
The most common question we receive is undoubtedly, “How much does it cost to CE mark my product?”
In this article, you’ll find answers to:
- The steps involved in the CE marking process
- The cost of getting help with the CE marking process
- An approximate price list for CE marking various products
What does it cost to CE mark a product?
At Certify & Comply, we often hear, “I know it’s like asking how long a piece of string is, but… what will it cost to CE mark this product?“
We understand that you want a clear answer about the cost and that it can feel overwhelming to figure out what applies.
One reason it’s challenging to write an article about the cost of CE marking is that the price can vary greatly depending on the product we’re talking about (consumer product, protective equipment, machinery, medical device, etc.).
We have developed several different packages in various price ranges for those who need help with CE marking. You can read more about CE marking packages here.
Step 1: Requirement analysis: what is it and what does it cost?
The biggest factor contributing to different costs for CE marking your product is the laws the product must comply with. There are many directives and regulations (we will refer to them as directives throughout this article) within the EU, and many products fall under more than one. Similarly, there are many standards used to meet the directive’s requirements. If you want to learn more about how the CE marking process works, you can read more here (in Swedish)
Finding the directives and standards is the most important and first step in how we work towards CE marking, and we call this a requirement analysis.
A requirement analysis with us at Certify & Comply costs between 12,900 and 35,000 SEK depending on the complexity of the product, but we often offer packages that include these.
Step 2: Meeting the requirements: how and what does it cost?
Now that we know what needs to be met (directives and standards), the next big question is what you already comply with. In other words, how many of the requirements for CE marking a product do you already meet?
For example:
- Are there test reports or certificates proving that all identified standards are met?
- Are there drawings and schematics required by the directives?
- Is there a user manual that meets the required standards?
- Is there a risk assessment?
- Is there correct labeling?
If something is missing, it must be fulfilled. At this stage, you might need to test the product, create a user manual, or conduct strength calculations, depending on what we have identified as missing.
Let’s go through some examples of what different steps can cost, but note that we offer packages where EVERYTHING is included. We call this CE Fast Track, which, as the name suggests, is the fastest and simplest way to get the CE mark. Read more about CE Fast Track here.
