Article: from engineer to entrepreneur: Roberth leads Certify & Comply Sweden AB to success

Our CEO and founder, Roberth Jonsson, hails from Tvärålund and holds a Master of Science in Electronics. He is passionate about safe products and solutions. In this article, you’ll learn more about him and the company’s plans for the future.

Before starting the company, Roberth worked as a project manager and site manager at Engcon AB, where he developed safe control systems for excavators.

“As a site manager, I constantly encountered difficulties in finding qualified consultancy help for CE marking, which led me to consider offering these services myself,” says Roberth.

And that’s how it all began.

Turning the dream of entrepreneurship into reality

The lack of consultants in CE marking was what pushed Roberth to start his own business in this field. The company initially focused on machinery, but the demand for CE marking for other types of products quickly grew.

“There’s practically an endless amount of work within machinery safety, but I still chose to move more toward products,” Roberth explains.

CE marking is a complex and comprehensive process. A significant part of the job involves making complicated information understandable. This can include legal texts and other documents that require a high level of prior knowledge and industry expertise to interpret and understand their implications for the customer’s products.

“I quickly discovered that I have a talent for making complex information easy to understand, a skill that’s very valuable in my business.”

Keeping up with new laws and regulations

To stay updated with new laws and regulations, Roberth follows many experts on LinkedIn, subscribes to newsletters, and uses various industry-specific monitoring tools. He emphasizes the importance of curiosity and interest to stay informed about the latest developments in the field.

What does CE marking actually mean?

CE marking signifies that the manufacturer takes responsibility for the product’s safety and that it complies with laws and regulations. Safety is therefore a central aspect of CE marking, although the marking itself is not an absolute guarantee that the requirements are met.

“However, not CE marking your products can lead to serious legal and business consequences, such as fines, customs stops, and recalls,” explains Roberth.

A common misconception is that CE marking is a certification performed by a third party. In reality, CE marking means that the manufacturer themselves takes responsibility for ensuring that the product meets EU safety requirements. It’s the manufacturer who CE marks the product, not a certification organization.

New trends and opportunities

In Roberth’s field, there’s a clear trend toward products with built-in radio communication, such as WiFi and Bluetooth. These products require a more costly and complex certification process. The biggest change, however, is expected to come from new EU laws targeting products on the market, creating significant opportunities for consultants in the field.

Two new services

Roberth recommends that companies seek expert help early in the product development process to avoid costly mistakes later. Certify & Comply recently launched the CE Fast Track service, a premium service that not only helps companies set the right course from the start to avoid costly mistakes later in the process but also ensures they make it all the way to the finish line.

“We noticed that many didn’t make it to the end. They knew what needed to be done but not how, and they didn’t have the time or interest to do it themselves. We simply guarantee completion,” says Roberth.

The second service is about what happens once the CE marking process is completed. Sales are going well, but suddenly a law changes, or a standard is no longer valid, and the product is no longer compliant. This service is called Compliance Monitoring, where we monitor potential legal changes for our old customers to avoid any unexpected issues.

“Laws are being updated, and new laws are being introduced at a rapid pace, making it difficult to stay up to date. With the help of AI, we can monitor our customers’ status and compare it with legal changes, allowing us to provide targeted advice tailored to each customer’s reality. It’s then easy to act or stay calm depending on the outcome of the report,” Roberth explains about the service.

What are your main strengths? why should clients choose you?

“We are highly competent in our field and strongly niche ourselves, which makes us really good at what we do. We know our strengths and weaknesses and can refer clients to the right experts when needed. We’ve built a network of partners who are the best in the industry, giving us a strong position.”

Entrepreneurship brings pride and satisfaction

Building his company from the ground up and being able to live off what he’s created is a great source of pride for Roberth. He feels satisfaction in being able to invest in his children’s future and in his own successes.

A strategic name change

After six years of hard work and business building, it’s time to take the next step with a name change. This fall, the company will change its name from Zatisfy AB to Certify & Comply Sweden AB. The new name will better reflect the company’s operations and make it easier for clients and partners to understand their services.

Future plans for Certify & Comply Sweden AB

The future looks bright for the company. The company plans to bring on more senior consultants and continue utilizing AI to streamline its operations and help clients comply with new legal requirements. The goal is to build a solid foundation for continued growth and development and to remain a leading player in CE marking and product certification.

“I’m really looking forward to continuing this exciting journey and contributing to a safer world through our work,” Roberth concludes.
